There are many studies that have been conducted and many more underway addressing the many health benefits of CBD.
Many people take CBD to Treat Conditions
*Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis
*Neurological conditions (i.e. Alzheimer’s, dementia, multiple sclerosis, stroke and traumatic brain injury).
*Diabetes
*ADHD
*Anxiety
*Autism
*Alcoholism
*Cardiovascular diseases
*Skin issues (acne, psoriasis, etc)
What Studies Have Shown Most notably, CBD has been used to treat pediatric seizure disorders, specifically Dravet Syndrom and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) which typically do not respond to anti-seizure medications. In numerous studies CBD was able to significantly reduce the seizures and in some cases stop them altogether. The FDA has recently approved the first cannabis-derived medication, Epidolex, which contains CBD.
CBD is used to address anxiety and has been evaluated and shown potential for treating anxiety-related disorders such as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder as well as post-traumatic stress disorder.. It has also shown promise to assist with falling - and staying - asleep.
Yet another study is underway regarding using CBD in the treatment of chronic pain and so far has shown that CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain which are the two most difficult types of chronic pain to treat.
CBD has been shown to help in reducing chemotherapy side effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain. A study found that a one-to-one combination of CBD and THC administered via a mouth spray reduced these chemotherapy-related symptoms better than the standard treatment alone.
Further studies have shown that CBD may actually have anti-cancer properties. This was the result of one study where concentrated CBD induced cell death in human breast cancer cells and another study showed that CBD inhibited the spread of aggresive breast cancer cells.
Although CBD has been shown to reduce symptoms related to cancer as well as having anti-cancer properties, more research is needed to prove its efficacy.
The Bottom Line: CBD is well-tolerated by most people, but just as anything else, has few risks as well
You may have heard of the Grapefruit Rule. It states that the grapefruit and the juice of grapefruit can impair how the body absorbs certain medications (i.e. anti-coagulants,cholesterol, blood pressure drugs). This same rule applies to CBD that is because they both inhibit the liver enzymes so it can boost the levels of certain medications in your blood.
There is plenty of ongoing research regarding the potential health benefits of CBD oil, so we will be hearing much more about the many therapeutic uses.Yet, from studies already completed, they report that CBD is a safe, natural treatment for many health issues.
